Why I am a Pink Tie Guy
Nothing really prepares a person for the traumatic words “You have cancer.” And, the shock is not lessened when those words are told to someone you love. Although my grandmother passed away from breast cancer when I was in high school, it didn’t fully prepare me for when my beautiful wife and soulmate, Rae, was diagnosed just a few years after our son was born. I am happy to say that Rae is now a “Survivor” of seven years. Being selected as a Pink Tie Guy is such an honor for me. The contributions that Susan G. Komen Charlotte makes to women (and men) in our community help lessen the fear and uncertainty that come from hearing those traumatic three words.
Last year, I learned that one of my lifelong friends from college, Sabrina Brees, was again battling breast cancer. Sadly, in July, Sabrina lost her battle leaving behind her husband and two young daughters. I know she would be proud that we are still fighting this disease for her.
I’d like to thank each and every one of you for your support as we work together to defeat this disease so that the only statistic that a mom, daughter, sister or loved one will be in the future is that of another “Survivor.”
