Name: William Miller
Company: Legal Services
Fundraising Goal: $5,000
William Miller has practiced law in Charlotte, N.C. for the past 12 years. William received his Bachelor of Arts and Law degrees from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. After graduating from law school, William began his legal career with a large international law firm before clerking for a federal judge and entering public service.
William has a very deep and personal connection to breast cancer and Komen Charlotte. William’s late-wife, Neil, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer the summer after she and William graduated from law school. In Komen Charlotte, Neil and William found a strong community of support as Neil battled the disease with William by her side. After years of inspiring others with her grace and determination, Neil passed away in August 2010. Following Neil’s death, William was named the Jerry Scienski Co-Survivor of the Year, an award given by Komen Charlotte to honor the efforts of co-survivors in caring for loved one with breast cancer.
Inspired by Neil’s fight, William has been a committed fundraiser and volunteer for Komen Charlotte. Team Neil, the Race for the Cure team captained by William, has raised tens of thousands of dollars since its formation in 2007 and is consistently ranked among the top fundraising teams. William began volunteering with Komen Charlotte in June 2008 as a member of the grants committee. In 2011, William joined the Komen Charlotte Board of Directors, where he helped lead the organization until the end of his term in 2017.
William remarried in 2016 and continues to live in his native Charlotte along with his wonderful wife Erin and young daughter Clara. William and Erin enjoy exploring the world together and watching Clara experience life’s joys for the first time.
